We’ve become passionate about hunting our home state of California and we’ve received some questions about how to get your hunting license and how to apply for a big game tag. The hunting tag application process can be confusing, so on this episode we breakdown the application process, discuss our strategy for applying for specific tags and zones, and live on the episode, Adrian applies for his hunting tags! Episode 34- Inaugural Free Range Tales Archery Whiskey Shootout
On episode 34, the boys recap the inaugural Free Range Tales Archery Whiskey Shootout. Recently, we gathered some friends, headed out to some public land, and put on a 3D archery shoot with a bottle of whiskey on the line for the winner. We discuss what an archery 3D shoot is, the fun of setting up challenging archery shots on public land and how shooting 3D archery targets make you a better archer. We discuss how setting up a friendly competition adds a little pressure to every shot and how much all the participants not only wanted to wind the bottle of whiskey but bragging rights until the next event! Free Range Tales Episode 33
In episode 33, we host Lauren Renteria to discuss her passion for spearfishing and freediving. We discuss how she started spearfishing and put her time in to become a hard charger, consistently putting fish on the deck. We discuss how Lauren has competed in spearfishing tournaments, travelled to chase different species of fish, and some of her personal best fish, including a recently caught 12 lb lobster! In episode 32, we visit Riverside Archery to host Ian and Kailey to discuss all things archery. In episode 31, we recap a trip to Arizona for an Over-The-Counter archery deer hunt. The crew headed out to chase mule deer, javelina, and the ever-elusive coues deer. We discuss planning the trip including meal prep, gear prep, and our newest adventure, traveling with a newborn! We also discuss the up's and down's of archery hunting from the art of glassing, patience during the stalk, and even recap taking a shot on a coues deer buck. Free Range Tales Episode 30
On this episode, we took the show on the road to Orange County, California to host Hide Iwagami, President of the OC Spearos spearfishing and freediving club. We discuss Hide's introduction to spearfishing and how some early success spearing some prized fish species in Southern California developed his passion for the sport. We discuss how his passion for spearfishing and freediving led to him becoming a member and recently the President of the OC Spearos dive club. We also talk about some of the OC Spearos club events and some of the things the dive club is doing to support, promote and educate noobs and veterans alike in the dive community. Free Range Tales Episode 29
In episode 29, the boys recap an epic summer of fishing including big bluefin tuna in our backyard and a trip to Alaska for halibut, salmon, and lingcod. Every fisherman has a bucket list of fish they would like to catch. With an unreal volume of bluefin in the local Southern California waters, the boys took a trip to try to break the 100-pound mark and land some big bluefin. And while the local waters continued to produce a bluefin bite like we've never seen, Jason took a trip back up to Alaska to chase another bucket list fish, an Alaskan lingcod. In episode 27, we recap an epic trip to Arizona hunting Coues Deer, Mule Deer, and Javelina. This trip was different because it was a couples trip. We host our wives, Ana and Amy, who joined us on to glass and hunt on our first archery deer hunt. We discuss Ana's first ever big game hunt and Amy's first hunt with an active tag in her pocket. We also talk about the lessons learned glassing, stalking, and experiencing the ups and downs of archery hunting. We cover our preparation of food, shooting arrows, and online scouting for a location we've never been to. Arizona is an amazing place that we all loved and can't wait to get back to. In episode 25, we take the show on the road to San Clemente, California to visit the Living Art Gallery Tattoo Lounge. We meet up with Monte Livingston and Andrew Ayala to discuss their shared passion for art and fishing.
Monte owns and operates the Living Art Gallery Tattoo Lounge. Established in 2011, is the oldest tattoo shop in San Clemente, specializing in photo realism, watercolor, neo-traditional, trash polka, and traditional tattoo styles. Andrew owns and operates Ayala Artifacts that specializes in custom, handmade jewelry. in episode 24, we took the show on the road to the headquarters of Mountain Hatch. Mountain Hatch manufactures the first and only food grade tailgate insert. Their food safe tailgate cutting boards have taken the truck accessory industry by storm. In addition, they recently released their new swag tent for the outdoorsman looking for a lightweight portable sleep system.
We discuss the origins of Mountain Hatch and how Fred and Greg's experience growing up outdoors hunting and fishing help them to develop functional products.

Free Range Tales Episode 23
In episode 23, we host Amy Tarasi to discuss the beginning of our archery journey. We recently purchased some new compound bows with the ambition to bow hunt wild game. Archery is one of the fastest growing industries and sports but requires time, patience, and dedication to learn and master. We discuss the process of learning archery and the many life lessons tied into this technical and fun pursuit.
We also discuss a delicious recipe for lobster rolls. Spiny lobster season starts a the beginning of October and is one of our favorite seasons and past times. We need to clear out the freeze prior to the new season starting and made a feast to celebrate the start of a new lobster season.

Free Range Tales Episode 22
In episode 22, we set the stage for our favorite season of the year, the Fall. In the fall, the offshore fishing season is in full swing with bluefin, yellowfin, dorados, and yellowtail all within our local waters. Also, hunting season is here! Mule deer season is fast approaching and upland bird seasons are opening up.
We discuss a successful offshore fishing trip chasing yellowfin tuna and go over some tuna recipes that are so good! We also discuss our favorite opening day and a tradition that lets us know that Fall is upon us, the Dove Season opener. We had another great trip for the dove opener and cooked up some new recipes that are definite keepers.

Free Range Tales Episode 21
In episode 21, we discuss a recent sportfishing trip aboard The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego, California chasing Bluefin Tuna. We discuss the techniques we used fishing for Bluefin including fly-lined bait, sinker or plunker rigs, and flat-fall fishing. If you don't know what those terms mean, take a listen as we explain each and how each technique worked for us. Also, we get into the recipes we enjoyed with our fresh catch. One of the things we enjoy most is sharing our catch with our friends and family! We discuss our recipes for sashimi, poisson cru, smoked tuna belly, and even a smoked tuna head! Paul is a throwback to a time of self-reliance and innovation and a time when if you wanted to go, you had to make your own gear. We've been lucky enough to get to know Paul over the years and enjoyed the lineage of knowledge and experience he has in the ocean and the game of spearfishing.
I feel like we barely scratched the surface with all the stories, experience,s and adventures Paul's gotten into, but it was great to have a conversation with one of our mentors and true innovators in the game.
